Privacy policy

Last updated 13 September 2026.

This policy explains what personal data PrintFamilyTree (the operator's legal name and registered address will be published here before launch) (“we”) collects through printfamilytree.com and the PrintFamilyTree service, why, and what rights you have. We follow the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and applicable national laws.

1. Data we collect

  • Launch list. If you subscribe on the home page, your e-mail address is sent to and stored by Brevo (Sendinblue), our newsletter provider. We use it only to inform you about the launch and important updates. You can unsubscribe with the link in every message.
  • Account data (after launch): e-mail address, password hash, plan and billing status. Payment card details are handled by our payment provider and never reach our servers.
  • Your genealogical files. GEDCOM files, images and text you upload, and the charts and books generated from them. These files may contain personal data of living people; you upload them under your own responsibility as described in the terms of use. We process them only to provide the Service to you.
  • Technical data. Server logs with IP address, browser type, requested pages and timestamps, kept for security and for diagnosing errors, for at most 30 days.
  • Analytics, only with your consent. If you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics 4 records which pages you open, an approximate location derived from your IP address, your device and browser, and how you reached the site. If you refuse, or never answer the banner, the Google tag is not loaded and nothing is sent. See the cookie policy.
  • Correspondence. E-mails you send us, kept as long as needed to answer and to keep a record of the conversation.

2. Why we process it

  • To provide the Service and perform our contract with you (account, files, generated output, payments).
  • With your consent, to send launch information and updates (launch list).
  • With your consent, to measure how the website is used (analytics).
  • For our legitimate interest in keeping the Service secure and improving it (logs).
  • To comply with legal obligations (invoices, tax records).

3. How long we keep it

Launch list addresses until you unsubscribe or until one year after launch, whichever is earlier. Uploaded files and generated output for as long as your account is active and six months after a subscription ends, unless you delete them earlier. Account data until you delete the account, then up to 30 days for backups. Analytics data for 14 months. Invoices as long as tax law requires.

4. Who we share it with

We do not sell personal data. We use service providers that process data on our behalf under data processing agreements: hosting and storage providers, Brevo for the launch list and e-mail, Google Ireland Limited for analytics if you consented to it, a payment provider for subscriptions, and an e-mail provider for support. Where a provider is outside the European Economic Area, transfers are protected by standard contractual clauses or an adequacy decision; for Google this is the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. Your genealogical files are never passed to the analytics provider.

5. Cookies and analytics

Without your consent we use only the storage that is necessary to run the website and the sign-up form. Google Analytics, and the cookies it sets, are switched on only if you accept them in the banner, and you can withdraw that at any time at the bottom of the cookie policy. We do not use advertising cookies.

6. Your rights

You may request access to, correction of, deletion of, or a copy of your personal data, object to processing based on legitimate interest, restrict processing, and withdraw consent at any time. Write to hello@printfamilytree.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority.

7. Personal data of others in your files

If your files contain data about living relatives, you are the controller of that data and we are your processor. We recommend excluding or privatising living people in exports you intend to publish; our article on privacy and living people explains how.

8. Children

The Service is not directed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect their data.

9. Changes

We will publish changes to this policy on this page and, for material changes, notify account holders by e-mail.
